This Kashkuli Gabbeh was hand-knotted by semi-nomads in southwestern Iran. Thanks to Persian tradition, it offers excellent quality. The motifs are usually kept simple in this type and do not appear too cluttered.

Persian Gabbeh

This beautiful rug is a Persian Gabbeh and thus belongs to the highest quality Gabbeh rugs. The rugs are knotted by nomads or semi-nomads in Iran following traditional handicraft. The simple motifs and patterns are mostly inspired by the nomads' close environment. For example camels, trees or bushes can be found on the traditional rugs. Persian Gabbeh rugs are made of wool from locally raised flocks of sheep. The wool is therefore mostly still spun by hand. Thus each of these oriental rugs embodies a unique character of centuries-old culture.

Handspun wool

This rug is made of hand spun sheep wool of the highest quality. Especially in Iran (former Persia), Afghanistan and Pakistan wool is still spun by hand before the actual knotting of the rug begins. Wool has proven itself as a natural and extremely hard-wearing material over centuries. Among other things, it has dirt-repellent and heat-insulating properties. At the same time, wool is incomparably soft and has a natural shine.

Woven by hand

This rug was made as a flat weave by hand on a loom. Flatweave is the term used to describe rugs that have no pile. As the name promises, these rugs are woven and not knotted. This results in a flat rug with a structured surface. Flatweaves are not as soft and usually thinner than knotted rugs. At the same time they are much less complex to manufacture and can usually be laid out from both sides (front and back). Their patterns are usually geometric, which is determined by the fabric.
